Melissa McCarthy is overjoyed that Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are settling in well in California.
After collaborating on Markle’s philanthropic 40th birthday video, the “Ghostbusters” star praised the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s newfound independence from the royal family.
“They were so sweet and funny. I just found them very inspiring. They’re carving out their own lives. They’re carving out their lives for their kids,” McCarthy, 50, told “Access Hollywood” on Monday.
The actress praised Meghan’s 4040 program, which aims to mentor women reentering the workforce following the COVID-19 pandemic.
“She’s doing such an amazing thing to celebrate her 40th birthday. I just love that she’s like, ‘Oh, what can I do to put some good [in the world] and help some people out?’ I was like, ‘Well, that’s awfully nice,’” McCarthy said of the program, which Meghan announced in their collaborative video earlier this month.
McCarthy wasn’t the only notable guest appearance in Meghan’s video. Prince Harry was also seen juggling in the background, an idea that the “Bridesmaids” actress claimed the Duke of Sussex came up with himself.
“He’s like, ‘I can juggle,’ and I’m like, ‘Oh, my God, if you juggle, you’ll break the internet. Then he’s like, ‘Is it going to be weird if I stand outside and juggle?’ I was like, ‘Weird in a way that will make me watch it five million times,’” she recalled.
Among the jokes in the Duchess of Sussex birthday video, McCarthy suggested that she celebrate her 40th birthday with a “Suits” cast reunion, which she couldn’t claim credit for.
“The ‘Suits’ reunion really made me laugh. That was not my idea. I wish I could claim that bit, but it was hers,” the “Mike & Molly” alum said.
Aside from the juggling and jokes, the video was also the first time fans of Harry and Markle saw their 2-month-old daughter, Lilibet Diana, in a photo on the duchess’ desk. The couple also have a 2-year-old son, Archie
